To create your sitemap in the Google Tools area, go to Marketing -> Google Tools


Then Click to expand the content area then click on Generate Sitemap. 


This will create a sitemap.xml.gz file and dump it into the web root of your cart.  Typically, to access the file you will want to go to:  http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml.gz once it has been created.  From here you will want to add the location of your site map into your Google Webmaster Tools account using this link: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools and then follow the steps below to complete theprocess of telling google about your sitemap.


  1. Select Your Site on your Google search console home page.
  2. Click Crawl
  3. Click Sitemaps
  4. Click the ADD TEST/SITEMAP button
  5. Fill in sitemap.xml.gz in the field next to your domain
  6. Click the Submit Sitemap button.

Note: If you receive the error message "Your sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead," make sure that you have entered sitemap.xml.gz to the text field next to your domain (step 5).
