You can now set categories to be invisible and make them only accessible through direct URL.

Steps
1. In your admin area, go to Products & Categories > Browse categories and click the Category you wish to Stealth.
2. In the Editing section, click the box next to Stealth category to enable the feature. Then, hit the Save button.
Note: You don't have to set the category to Invisible, this feature will hide it for you.
3. Once it's done, you can no longer see the category from the storefront. Click the View Storefront link at the top and it'll show you the category. At this point, only the customer who has the URL can access/view the category.
